There are not yet any rules restricting use of designated (developed) campsites along the Wild and Scenic stretch of the Missouri River in Montana. There is a limit of 3 consecutive nights stay at any one campsite... Non-developed sites are numerous on public land along the river. BLM and state wildlife officials restrict the use of islands for camping, from about mid May through June, in order to give the ground nesting fowl a little private space to raise their young.
Over the past couple of years, there has been a pair of eagles nesting in a dead cottonwood tree near the McGarry Bar campsite downstream from Judith Landing. Therefore, BLM is restricting any human use of this campsite for an unspecified length of time.
You can find more details about planning a river trip on our website at http://www.canoemontana.com and on the BLM site at http://www.blm.gov/mt/st/en/fo/umrbnm/plantrip.html

Q 1 - What is the average meal cost at the Mercantile; and do you serve 3 meals per day there?

Q 2 - Is the 2012 kayak (ungided) rental cost for the day still at $35? Any problem with me leaving at sunup and returning at sundown the first week of May?

Q3 - Is the 2012 cabin rental cost still at $50 for the night?

Thanks and hope to see you first week in May.

One year ago next week my wife and I had the pleasure of visiting your little corner of Montana and had a wonderful time. You may remember us as the GN railfans looking for the depot and you directed us to the building near your mom's house in Big Sandy. We hope to return someday and take a canoe trip.

Well, that was now a year ago? What's the status of the ferry today, being April of 2010? I was just curious, thought we, the general public could use a current update. Thanks in advance.

Our season typically begins sometime in the second week to mid April... But it really depends on the public's demand for our services.
The second week of May should be good. Others will probably already have gone before you. The ice is almost gone from the river banks today, and the weather is getting warmer. However, you should be prepared for brief snow storms in May. It is rare, but it can happen. Thanks.

When does your season start? Is the second week in May too early for a river trip from Coal Banks to Kipp?
